Student government

As a progressive school with a diverse, international and multi-cultural student body, maintaining a student centred community is key to ensuring student involvement in life at school. The Sedbergh Student Council, through its network of committes, initiates and oversees projects with local and national impact.

Student Council and its associated committees are overseen by the Head Boy and Head Girl. These grade 12 students are elected to these positions, for duration of the school year, by the students and staff at Sedbergh. With the help of the Dean of Students and other staff, the Head Boy and Head Girl keep the committees' projects on track.

As a Round Square school, Sedbergh was founded on and continues to operate by incorporating the experiential educational principles of Kurt Hahn, from which the six IDEAL principles of Round Square were developed:

  • Internationalsim
  • Democracy
  • Environment
  • Adventure
  • Leadership
  • Service

All committees are lead by a senior student (grade 11 and 12) under the supervision of a staff member. Sedbergh encourages all students to be active members of a committee so that they can make positive contributions to life at school and toward various community and international organisations.
