Skiing at Sedbergh

With the Canadian Ski Marathon approaching, we are all working on becoming better skiers.  Here are a few tips from Cross-Country Canada on what makes a good skier:

  • good balance
  • weight transfer
  • forward travel
  • create force in direction of travel
  • even rhythm
  • change technique to match terrain
  • good physical conditioning
  • weight on toes (forward lean)
  • push down, not back

To encourage full weight transfer while skiing, ask yourself "who knows how to ski?"  The answer is "Tony knows," OR "Toe-Knee-Nose."  Your toes, knees and nose should be in line on each glide.  Have a friend watch you from the front to see if you are adequately transferring your weight; he/she should see your toe, knee and nose line up each time you push off and glide.
