Grade Nine Adventure Week

While the spotlight of the world will soon turn to the West Coast, we were busy exploring what the East Coast has to offer. We were thoroughly impressed, I might add. The grade nine class has recently returned from our adventure week in the Gaspesie. Geographically speaking, our destination was in the mountains of the Parc National de Gaspesie. We took about eleven hours to drive from school to the trailhead. We only made a few comfort stops along the way. Our means of travel was the traditional snowshoe. Since we were breaking fresh trail for the first two days, we learned how useful the ‘bigfoot’ contraptions could be. There was a base of about four feet of fresh mountain snow. The mountains were bigger and more dramatic than any of us expected. On day two of the snowshoeing we were staying at the Roselin cabin. It was around mid-day that something magical happened. We were visited by a plump bird. This bird was very majestic with the backdrop of undisturbed, snowy silence. My personal belief in bird spirits was reinforced. This adventure week was a great success. Generally, we enjoyed the majesty of the Gaspesie, and all the ocean scenes along the way. We are excited to present a video documentary to the school, for more of flavour of what it was like.
