As a new Faculty member to Sedbergh, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect for the infamous Canadian Ski Marathon that everyone was talking about. For weeks I saw the students training twice a week for this big event but it wasn’t until the weekend actually came that I came to understand the wonder of cross-country skiing. The entire school became alive with energy during preparations for the marathon and you could see the excitement on many faces.
The first day of the marathon, I found myself helping out David Chan as one of his right-hand ladies making sure that all of our Sedberghians made it safe to each checkpoint. While the day may have seemed long and cold just staying in one spot for hours, the delight I felt being able to cheer on, congratulate and encourage each of our students was a priceless experience. One by one, the tired faces would appear around a corner and it would send me into a burst of energy to help them make it to the checkpoint – of course, having some music to dance to helped, too. I have never been so proud of many of these students.
