Community service

Sedbergh's student run Community Service Committee meets every week. Recognizing the importance of giving back to various communities, giving their time and energy, our students participate in a variety of community service projects throughout the school year.

Our students are required to research organizations prior to making a commitment to support them. Not all organizations receive monetary donations, some receive food, clothes, toys or labour. All depends on what the student committee decides.

The committee members will often task the students to continue with their community service commitments during breaks and holidays, an important recognition that organizations and individuals require assistance at all times. Examples of on-going commitments include:

  • Every spring, Sedbergh's senior students (grades 9 - 12) spend a day at Camp Amy Molson preparing the camp for underprivileged children to enjoy in the summer (located in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, Québec).
  • Twice a year, the whole school participates in the Roadside Clean-up. This is an afternoon event in which students and staff, with latex gloves and garbage bags, pick up litter from the junction of Highway 323 in Montebello all the way to the school.
  • Students raise money for the Saving Station Foundation by skiing for distance in the Canadian Ski Marathon.
  • Raising money of a range of charities, senior students participate in the 24 Hour ski race at Mt. Tremblant, Quebec.
  • Cothing drives are organised throughout the year supporting Dans la Rue and their work with street youth.
  • Starting in the late fall each year, grade 7 and 8 students organize food and toy drives for local communities.
