Christmas Party

It was almost the Christmas Holidays and we were all done exams; everybody was exited to go home. First initiated by Mr. Cobban last year, the second annual Sedbergh “Order of Good Cheer” occurred this time around on December 18, right before break. This year’s festive themed celebration was an opportunity for members of the Sedbergh community to exhibit their hidden talents, such as music, dance, and poetry. Nestled around the fireplace in the Founder's Room, Kiara, Mattew, Jahel & I did a dance to a medley of Christmas Songs by the Jackson 5 and had a great time. Going with the Christmas theme Steffy and I also handed out a few very useful and fitting gifts to a few lucky recipients. Rafe got a hairnet, Corie, a leash for her camera, and Mr. Parkes received a pair of socks with his least favorite hockey team’s logo on them, just to name a few. A rousing performance of Alvin & the Chipmunks’ Christmas Song was a fan favorite as well as the several impressive musical appearances by Bellamy’s Band throughout the night. Ms. Leadbeater and a few girls performed an amazing choreographed dance and Mr. Mauchan tricked audience members into thinking he was a circus performer. Just like last year a few staff members took us on a trip into the future as they showed us a skit of four future Sedberghians, inspired by Monty Python. The night was highlighted by an enticing round of Christmas carols that were sung and enjoyed by everyone from Grace and Anya to Mr. Blair and Mr. Armstrong, featuring “The Twelve Days of Christmas” as done by the senior class. Mr. Hedges and Gereon made a reappearance this year once again playing badminton and Bronwyn treated us to a piano piece to which she sang along. A Sedbergh event would not be complete without an appearance from Mr. Vintcent who showed up to give a reading of “The Gift of the Magi.” It was a great way for the whole school to get together to end a tough week of exams and a long term. The whole student body seemed to have enjoyed themselves and so did the staff.  Overall, I feel the night was a great success.
